As a special education teacher, Lori Farris encountered a small, dirty kitten on a student’s doorstep one day as she was leaving. The little feline started following her to her car, prompting Lori to take action and bring the kitten, who she named Willow, with her. Determined to help the kitten, Lori took Willow in and gave her a much-needed bath to clean her up.
After saving a small kitten infested with fleas, Lori wasted no time in taking her to the veterinarian for a full check-up. It turned out that Willow not only had fleas but also was battling an eye infection and intestinal parasites.
Nonetheless, her facial features and appearance distinguished her from a typical cat, and despite the fact that cats cannot have Down’s syndrome, the vet mentioned that she had a chromosomal irregularity that resembled it. The vet further elaborated that if she had been brought to a shelter, she would have been put down due to her unconventional appearance, which would have hindered her chances of being adopted.
After seeing Willow’s unique appearance, Lori made the decision to welcome her into her home. Despite her initial reservations, Lori quickly grew fond of Willow and showered her with affection.
Under Lori’s attentive care, along with the necessary medication, Willow transformed from a fragile kitten into a joyful and affectionate cat.
“Lori doesn’t mind if people say she looks strange, because she does, but she gets upset when others use hurtful terms like ugly, retarded, or gross,” said Lori.
“I believe people are drawn to her because she represents love, kindness, and beauty, even though she’s unique. She’s an amazing cat in every aspect, and I’m grateful to have her in my life.”
Fast forward two years, Willow is still rooming with Lori and her loyal companion, Ella the Boxer. The three of them are inseparable, participating in activities together, sharing meals, and snoozing side by side.
Willow is truly living the high life, boasting an Instagram following of over 147,000 fans who can’t get enough of her fabulous flower hat collection. It’s clear that Willow is one fortunate feline, and all thanks go to Lori for rescuing her. Way to go, Willow!
Unfortunately, earlier this year, Ella passed away and has now crossed over the rainbow bridge. The memories of their special moments together will always hold a special place in Willow’s heart.
