One day, a curious cat decided to enter through the window, discovering a world of happiness waiting for him on the other side of the wall.
A kind-hearted individual who looks out for stray cats in the area noticed a new addition to the feline group showing up for meals. Recognizing that the cat, named Chris, was friendly and seemed out of place outdoors, she reached out to Ridgewood Rescue in New York for assistance. The rescue organization quickly agreed to help and took the necessary steps to bring Chris to safety.
As Chris returned to the finder’s home, she made an effort to lure him inside through an open window.

The curious cat pressed his face against the window, peering inside the apartment with interest. Hungry and looking for shelter, he found comfort in the welcoming space. With a full bowl of food, tasty treats, and lots of affectionate chin scratches, he decided to trust and make himself at home.
As he settled in and explored his new surroundings, Chris felt a sense of peace and belonging, grateful for the rescue that led him to safety.
Ridgewood Rescue came across a non-microchipped, neutered male dog who seemed to have had a home before. Heather Glassberg shared, “He was really friendly and sweet.” Despite efforts to find his previous owners with posters and inquiries, no one stepped forward. The decision was made to place him in foster care until a forever home could be found.

Chris nestled in close to his human companions, soaking up all the affection and food he could get his paws on. Although he seemed content, they started to realize he was having trouble using the litter box.
They went through a variety of solutions (different types of litter, attractants, extra boxes, calming pheromones, and more), but nothing seemed to help. A trip to the vet ruled out any physical issues, and advice from a cat behaviorist also didn’t seem to make a difference.
Ridgewood Rescue never lost hope despite facing numerous challenges and accidents along the way. Eventually, a suggestion from one of the volunteers to consider barn-cat adoption for Chris came up.
The team speculated that Chris may have been accustomed to going outdoors for his bathroom breaks, explaining his struggle with the litter box. With little expectation but willing to give it a shot, they decided to explore this new avenue for Chris.
Not long after that, a woman from Massachusetts contacted the rescue organization. It was at that moment when something truly amazing occurred.
Living in a semi-rural location, the woman had been on the lookout for the ideal cat to become a part of her family. Her previous feline companion, who had sadly passed away, used to share a doggie door to the backyard with their family dog.
Ridgewood Rescue Experience
“Upon conversing with her, it became evident that she was the perfect choice for Chris. We were impressed by her frankness and commitment to ensuring a safe environment. She was even prepared for the possibility of him having accidents in the litter box inside.”
“Both she and her husband embarked on a journey lasting over five hours, while we drove nearly four hours to rendezvous in CT for the handover. Tears were shed generously from both parties as we bid farewell.”
Ridgewood Rescue had a feeling that the family and little Chris would get along great, but they never could have predicted the amazing changes he would go through under their care. “Chris hasn’t had a single accident in more than two weeks and is using the litter box perfectly.”
Now, he has turned into a pampered indoor cat, but most importantly, he has developed a sweet bond with the adopter’s granddaughter.
Chris, who is now lovingly known as Felix, has finally found his forever home at Ridgewood Rescue. It seems like he is settling in well, as he hasn’t even ventured outside yet. His new family has really taken a liking to him and they have even given him a new name – Felix. It’s heartwarming to see Felix finally find the perfect family that he truly belongs with.
